AVS MAKE LONG TERM INVESTMENTS
Last week the Colorado Avalanche came to long term agreements with 2 players, solidifying depth for the forseeable future. They also took the next step with young Defence prospect David Musil.
Wojtek Wolski - 5 years - $2.75 Mil
After some incredible seasons in Phoenix, Wolski's numbers took a steep decline, which landed him a new home in Colorado last season. The former 2-time All Star finished the regular season with a sub-par 9 points in 23 games, but came alive in the playoffs, netting 6 goals and 3 assists in 13 post season games.
Avs management was very excited about Wolski, and with his shining 21 points in 31 games this year so far, felt he has come back to his old self.
Jimmy Howard - 5 years - $3 Mil
The 2012 trade deadline pickup has seen his fair share of work for the Avs over parts of 3 seasons, and has proven himself to be a reliable starter in Denver. For the first time in the 4 and a half seasons of the Avalanche GM's regime, Colorado now has a solid goaltender to build the team around.
David Musil - 3 Years - $1.5 Mil
The 8th Overall pick in 2011 was signed to a 3 year deal worth $4.5 Million, during the final year of his entry level contract. Avs management had this to say about the signing:
"David has been an important piece of our Lake Erie Monsters over the last 2 seasons. Because of the depth we have had in the NHL on defence, we felt we could take our time with him, and develop him to a point where he can make a huge impact in his rookie season. Already with 80 hits and 15 points in 31 games, he has taken a huge leap into the big game. We are taking a long term look at Musil, and value him on defence as we do Taylor Hall on offence. Our future is quite bright in Colorado"
In other Avalanche news, hold-out RFA Goalie Kieran Millan is expected to sign a 3-year deal with Colorado. His standout year was two seasons ago, where he played 50 games as the Avs' starter, boasting a 27-19-3 record, and a respectable .874 save percentage. Colorado aims to have a Howard-Millan tandem, where Millan will serve as the team's backup.
